Da quasi 900 anni lo Chardonnay viene coltivato sui pendii del Leithagebirge. Intorno al 1150 i monaci cistercensi portarono le viti di Chardonnay dalla Borgogna. Nella zona protetta sud-orientale di Ried Tatschler, menzionata per la prima volta nel 1570, matura su terreni calcarei di ardesia fino a raggiungere una qualità eccellente.
