Tornai
The Tornai family winery is one of the best winegrowers in Somló. The winery was founded in 1946 by grandfather Tornai and has since grown to 22 hectares. The vineyards are divided over numerous small plots. Huge investments have been made, making the winery one of the most beautiful and best-equipped in all of Hungary. The winery, where three generations now work, is managed by Tamas Tornai. He is a self-taught winemaker who started working on the parental mountain winery at a young age. His daughters Eszter and Anna also contribute.
Specialization in white wines
The Tornai winery specializes in white wines and has a wide variety of its own Hungarian grape varieties such as juhfark, furmint, hárslevelű, olaszrizling, zenit, zeusz, csomorika, tramini, szürkebarát. The most modern vinification techniques are used for the winemaking and a successful combination of cool fermentation in stainless steel and wooden vats (for the higher wines).
Somló
The wine-growing region of Somló is located in the northwest of Hungary. It is an area with enormous quality potential and a unique, intriguing terroir. The vineyards are located on a 431-meter-high hill, which consists of the millions of years old remains of a volcano. The soil consists of a very special black basalt, which gives the wines a deep mineral impression. The vineyards are located at an altitude of 150 to 300 meters, mostly facing south. In total, Somló covers 700 hectares of vineyards.
