La Purísima

In the south of Spain – between the coast and the heart of the interior – is Bodegas La Purísima, one of the largest wineries in Murcia. With 800 farmers, this cooperative accounts for 60% of the total production of D.O. Yecla. Together they own 2,800 hectares of vineyards in the two main areas of Yecla: Campo Arriba and Campo Bajo.

Native grape
The most important grape is monastrell, the native grape known for its excellent ripening potential. About 100 hectares are ungrafted, pre-phylloxera. In addition to monastrell, they also grow – among other things – tempranillo, merlot, cabernet sauvignon and syrah. Since 1946, La Purísima has been working hard, with joint efforts the birth of D.O. Yecla in 1975.

Extreme weather conditions
The temperature in the vineyards goes from -6°C in the winter to around 40°C in the summer, there is little rain – only around 400 millilitres per year – and quite often extreme weather from burning sun to hailstorms. There is a lot of diversity in the soils. The vineyards are located at 400 to 800 metres above sea level, for Campo Arriba even 700 to 800 metres with 80% limestone, 5% sand and 15% clay. Lower down, the soil is around 30% limestone, 65% clay and 5% sand.

Investing in quality through innovation
Cartography, temperature controls, stainless steel tanks, La Purísima invests heavily in technology to guarantee quality. The soil of each plot is carefully analysed so that the farmers can grow the best quality grapes with the right data. After the harvest, they go ‘on the conveyor belt’ – randomly and a maximum of twice a day – to measure the quality. The percentage of organic wines is also increasing and seven new state-of-the-art tanks have been installed for even higher-quality vinification.

Pure indulgence, but sensible
In our range you will find a Macabeo, Syrah and Monastrell Barrica from the Consentido series. Spoiled or favourite is the literal meaning of this word. Split into con and sentido it means sensible. In this climate, the grapes have to work and with the excellent care of the winegrowers this benefits the character. This produces beautiful wines for a friendly price. You can spoil your guests with these new favourites that are produced with so much care.
