Murua

Murua Winery is one of five wineries owned by the Masaveu family. A family business that was set up in Barcelona by Federico Masaveu Ripoll in the mid-nineteenth century. Murua has been part of the family since 1974 and is the first wine project since its foundation, about a hundred years ago.

Grande Reservas from a grande bodega
In the Rioja Alavesa, there are 110 hectares of 60 years and older, divided over eight plots, each with its own planting. Murua mainly produces Reservas and Gran Reservas. Juicy, modern while retaining a sense of tradition, the riojas from this house will leave a positive impression on the enthusiast.

Passions with a common thread
The passion of this family does not stop at producing wine. For example, collecting and exhibiting art is one of the many side activities that the family engages in. They also own a library that specializes in everything to do with wine. There we saw sixteenth-century books and trade transcripts, but also 500,000 auction catalogues from the wine auctions of Christie’s and Sotheby’s.

A desired result
The combination of the driving force and drive of the Masaveu’s, the old vineyards, the location in Alavesa and the terraced vineyards ensure that the wines of Murua are elegant, drinkable, but above all recognizable for the region.
